Lady Kesare Fuentes de Costa Ciraea
White to Rose Tri Caste Healer / Black-Widow / Priestess
Kesare is both proud, and insecure; compassionate, and ruthless; Widow and Healer. She is both driven, and utterly lost. These dualities run through her entire life, driving her on towards personal perfection and the redemption of her people.
Her innate insecurity is rooted in her family's disdain for her Birthright Jewel. This basic insecurity has been the spark for her intense drive and furious study, but no matter how much she learns or how much recognition she receives, it is never enough. She cares deeply about the opinions of those around her. She would much rather take a physical blow than have cruel or hurtful things said about or to her.
Kesare is proud of her work and her lineage, although this pride does not carry with it an automatic contempt for lesser creatures. She is working hard on eliminating her Class consciousness and hatred of Eyrienes, but it is a daily battle.
Kesare has a serious mind with a grave purpose that can blot out levity. It is not that she dislikes laughter, but rather that her heart no longer holds onto joy. In any situation or relationship, she perceives the risks and wounds first, the rewards last.
Kesare's estate is in the Sarque province of Dhemlan, the Ciraea district, specifically including the mountains along the south shore. Her mother was the local village Queen, ruling out of Castle Fuentes. Kesare currently holds the largest consolidated estate on that coast, almost half of the district.
Since so few of the Blood are left on her Estates, she takes an interest in them. She does not, however, trust them to rule themselves. For administration, she appoints a 13 person council in each local area. It consists of a five person Men's Circle, a five person Women's Circle, and three appointees. The appointees are from the District Court, the Conquistadors, and one person of her choosing. The men's Circle consists of the town Mayor, the Innkeeper, the Miller, the Blacksmith and the Sheriff. They are balanced by the Women's Circle, consisting of the the Eldest (the oldest healthy female), the wise, (the teacher to the young), the Midwife (herb and knife healer specializing in women's issues and childbirth), the Herbalist (herb and knife healer generalist), and the Speaker (the best educated female). If a Blood wants to rule, they had better qualify for one of those positions and be nice about it.
Kesare and her Stewards do administrative paper work and pass on Tithe in her area. She helps support the local Conquistadores, as they are all she has in the way of police and military. She writes regularly to the Warlord-Prince Savion about these and other concerns, though she suspects no-one reads her letters. (In truth, her area is quiet and runs smoothly, the Court has bigger troubles, and everyone is starving.)
Kesare is well respected in her field, and since the Purge has been sought out by those of other Territories for her particular skills. At first she both taught and healed only within Dhemlan; eventually it was all of Terrille. After about eighty years, she began to get requests for aide to damaged Queens and Warlord-Princes in Kaeler; her high skill, Dual Castes, but relatively low Jewel strength meant foreign Courts were less wary of retaining her skills.
She is not powerful, her Healings are often slow, and usually include counseling, acupuncture, massage and other non-Craft techniques, sometimes requiring visits to either safe or traumatic locations. Kesare prefers to do long-term Healings (those that take more than a month) at her own home, although anywhere that is emotionally and mentally safe for her patient will do.
Her Healing specialization is in those injuries that cross the mind/body divide, having elements of both psychic and physical damage. As a Black Widow, she specialized in healing Chalices and balancing personalities. Her field of expertise includes brain and nerve damage, the endocrine system, as well as those injuries that blur the line between purely organic damage and mental trauma. Her goal is always a balanced personality and movement without pain.
